I originally worked as a Fashion Stylist in Advertising and on Magazines in London and New York. Once my children were at school, I re-trained at KLC School of Design and brought the skills and experience gained in my earlier career to focus on Interiors.
I set up Alie Carter Interiors in 2007 and have since worked on residential projects from Country Homes, to London houses and apartments, to Ski Chalets and on Commercial Office projects in London and Kent.
Every project should tell a story about the client; taking into account their personality and lifestyle as well as the architecture of the property. I work closely with my clients to ensure that I translate their brief, and their specific requirements, in a way which compliments them and results in a home or working environment which feels like a well-cut suit or dress, tailored to a fabulous and comfortable fit.
I often work alongside Architects and Developers and have a trusted team of craftsmen and fitters; curtain makers, upholsterers, furniture makers; decorators, bathroom fitters etc.
I have no ‘house style’, but I like to work with colour and texture and enjoy including clients’ existing favourite pieces in my schemes. I source widely and frequently commission artwork and bespoke furniture for clients. The small details make a big impact for me – interesting handles, contrasting edgings and tactile trims make things zing.
